I just received a new Dell Studio 17 with an embedded Sprint Dell Wireless Novatel 5720. The device model says E725 Sprint. One question is as I have read about this model it connects at 3.1 mbps, and wanted to know if I can buy another embedded model that connects at the 7.2 mbps and switch those out? At one of my homes I have a metal roof that I can definitely tell interferes with the signal in someway as when I go outside on my porch my signal strength jumps up 1-2 bars. I have read about amplifiers and antennas that I would connect to devices with external antenna inputs. As far as I can tell I have no way to connect an external antenna to the embedded 5720. Are there any ways I could use an amplifier or external antenna at my metal roof residence with my current embedded 5720? Do Sprint signal repeaters that office buildings use repeat and amplify the same frequencies the EV-DO do? Any responses about anything I could try and do to up my signal strength would be so appreciated.

Thanks so much.

the "3.1" and "7.2" specs are from the device maker and represent maximum theoretical speed.

the reality is what the carriers network will provide, and it rarely if ever is going to be "maximum theoretical speeds".

check out http://evdomaps.com/Fastest+Downloads for examples.

reminds me of the first time i sat in a hyundai excel and saw 120mph on the end of speedometer.

yeah. as. if.
