I dont know if this is the right forum to post this in, but since it was just brought to my attention. I see that theres some filtering of the company that provides it which might explain why when I did a basic search nothing came up on here so I don't know if this is allowed to be posted or not..
http://a different Sprint Reseller.com/mobilebroadband/BYOD.htm
| Quote: | It is unlimited and no-contract for $59.99/month. There is a one-time $19.99 activation fee. This service requires a Sprint mobile broadband device owned by the customer. Please note that devices purchased from auction sites are often stolen and thus cannot be activated.
Closure of BYOD account requires submission of cancellation form; you are responsible for final calendar month of service and it is not prorated.
Devices usable with this plan:
Franklin CDU-680
Pantech PX500
Sierra Wireless 595U
Sierra Wireless AC580
Sierra Wireless AC595
Novatel Ovation U720
Novatel Ovation U727 |
I wasn't considering canceling Sprint since it was the only option I had here and and I really only use very close to 5 GB a month (in the 7-9 GB range). But if I could get on this plan, with no contract I think I might have to go ahead with it.
Just curious what everyone else thinks. How long will they be able to offer unlimited data on Sprint's network. Will speeds suffer due to Sprint's greater than 5 GB sendoffs flocking to it? |

It's certainly interesting. They don't seem to be so much a reseller of Sprint's services as a repackager. That is to say, they buy service from Sprint and resell it. Which would mean they may have a long term contractual arrangement with Sprint that Sprint has to honor, much like the Alltel deal.
I'd be interested to see if they can still offer this service later in the year. |

Unfortunately, no such luck. I got this over at the a different Sprint Reseller forum. This is looming over the horizon at the end of this month.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got this from a different Sprint Reseller:
At this time it appears that the FCC will not approve our new global device
which would have provided unlimited coverage world-wide at our $49.99 rate.
Our existing service we have been informed that Sprint will
nullify our ability to provide unlimited and no contract service beginning
7/31/08. We will be sending out an informational email soon informing
our clients of this circumstance once the final details are in place.
We will be able to transfer over everyone (if they wish, of course) over to
either Verizon or Sprint directly with certain benefits because they are
going through a different Sprint Reseller, however we won't be the direct billing agent after
August.
Thank you for your interest in our service.

I got this in my email from Autonet yesterday after I inquired about their service a couple of months ago.
| Quote: | Hello Wayne,
Just following up on an email you sent to us expressing interest in purchasing Autonet Mobile. I’m happy to assist you with that. We have several dealerships throughout the country that have just started selling Autonet Mobile. If you are not in one of those locations, we can ship the product to you and you will need to take it to a place where they can install the router in your car.
Below are the pricing details.
The hardware is $499
One time activation fee is $35
Monthly subscription is $29 a month
Minimum 1 year contract
Right now we are giving an extra 3 months free. So you get 15 months for 12 months.
Please feel free to call or email to complete the purchase process.
Thank you and best regards,
Christine

Looks like some healthy start up costs, but the monthly charge is reasonable.

from what I can tell it's an EV-DO router router that mounts in your vehicle, turning it into a rolling hotspot. I'm not sure which carrier it's using for a provider. |
