Just successfully cancelled my previously Unlimited Sprint Mobile Broadband account, with no early termination fee.
After reading this page http://www.sprintpcs.com/common/popups/popLegalTermsPrivacy.html I called them and said to the rep that I want to "cancel my Service because of a material change to the Agreement."
At first the guy didn't know about the 5GB limitation, he said if I moved from my (Employee Discount) $50 a month to the $60 a month Unlimited Mobile Broadband that I wouldn't have a limit. I (nicely) told him I was reading right on my bill that it says 5GB per month, I quoted him part of it.
He put me on hold a few minutes to check with someone, and came back and said I was correct, that was the first he heard of it. He said I won't receive any more bills and my card will still be active until the 24th, and there will be no early termination fee.
He mentioned that he was on that plan too and hoped it wouldn't affect him. I told him I bet it would unless they gave him a break as an employee. He was also able to tell me that I'd used 709,000 kilobytes in June, which is 692 MB. I thought I'd used more, I'm pretty sure I downloaded one file that was 1GB. So I gotta wonder about that.
Anyway YMMV but that's how I got out of Sprint without a $200 fee. I think that exact phrase I quoted above is the key. |

| I just cancelled mine too. The guy basically stopped putting up a fight after checking my usage and seeing that I did use more than 5GB a month. (In his words "I tear it up.") He did try to get me to sign up for a phone for some reason, but I just let it all roll off my back and didn't let myself get aggravated and it went pretty smooth. |

| I talked with Makia in retention and for quite some time she kept insisting that the 5gb cap did not apply to my account and that I was limited only when roaming. She put me on hold for several minutes and came back and told me the same thing again. After telling her I wanted to talk with a supervisor. she put me on hold again for about 10 minutes and then came back to say that she now agreed that the cap applied, she then cancelled my service. Whew! |

Their unwillingness to admit that there is a new policy, especially after it's been 2 months after it was announced, really has me starting to doubt whether they intend to enforce it. |

Yeah, it doesn't make sense.I go over the limit every month, but honestly I'm one of those poor soul's that works a late second shift,so I pretty much have the tower to myself. If they kicked me off all they would do is lose 60.00$ a month.....so I'm not going to worry about it,and if they do decide to strictly enforce the usage I will go with dial up,Hughes net,or buy another card and try like heck to get a deal on having multiple cards. |

| I would have stayed with Sprint if Verizon didn't have a tower closer to me. Performance is quite a bit better for me. |

I just canceled my Sprint account. I got to the 'cancellation department' pretty quickly, had to explain about the change in contract thing, which would have been harder if they hadn't documented the emails sent to me by the executive help desk in my account info.
They agreed to cancel my phone, and asked if there was anything else. I asked them to verify that there would be no ETF, and the lady seemed surprised that i would ask such a thing. I pointed out that otherwise Sprint changed my terms of service, and was asking me to pay for the privilege. She talked to her supervisor, and they agreed that there would be no ETF.
Lesson Learned #1: Verify that there would be no ETF. Don't assume because they agree to cancel your phone, they will waive it, and don't assume they will mention if there is one.
One puzzling thing: The lady in the cancellation department seemed surprised when I talked about the 5GB cap. But she *DID* know the talking point about how 'almost no one uses more than 5GB'. Very odd. |
