For me it is.
I got into EVDO because the other monopoly phone company, doesn't even offer DSL at my house. And I am living in a major metro area of Hartford CT!
So I was in a position of considering the alternatives. I looked at cable and EVDO. It seemed that for the same price, EVDO was better (in my case) because I could take it with me without having to hassle with updating/reestablishing my account when I move in several months or a year.
So I went with Verizon Wireless last September. On a 2-year contract. It was explicitly "unlimited" data usage.
From the beginning, I have been disappointed with the service. It has never reach but a fraction of the advertised speeds. As it now stands, I could get better service with a dial-up carrier. Do I hate Verizon more than AOL? That's a good question.
What system of morals says that a so-called contract can be changed by one party and not the other at any time without notice? What is that? It's not a contract in my world. I am not a believer in the devil, but I would say that this is the work of someone very much like him.
So, now that the Internet has become an important part of the lives of most people in this country, the greedy corporations in charge decide it is their chance to kick their customers in the kidneys. I HATE those people. The word seems weak to me now.
So, I will cancel my ""contract"" as soon as possible and consider myself suckered again at no small expense.
Should I sign up with our local cable monopoly ISP? Will I be suckered again?
Or should I just give up on this whole Internet enterprise? Should I simplify my life by getting rid of my my computers? And when I HAVE to use the internet, should I just go down to the library and let them deal with the ISP purgatory? (Note to The Vatican: Purgatory hasn't vanished. It has materialized in the form of ISPs.)
You know, back when the corporate takeover of the Internet was imminent, those of us in the old school could easily imagine its demise. It seemed that we were wrong for a long time. The present circumstances reinforce my belief that the inevitable is, indeed, impossible to prevent. One can pay the price and put it off for awhile. But it's still coming.
Watching, as if it were my nephew, the Internet grow up, has turned out to be a heartbreaking disappointment.
Yes, maybe I have lost hope. I don't want to. Does anyone have some words of encouragement? I would really appreciate it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I have no words of encouragement other than I think they're getting the hint from customers like myself who left their service to go to sprint who at the time had unlimited, but are laughing at us in line for purgatory cause they have the last laugh.
They need a TRUE unlimited plan for like $99/month, i'd sign up for that in a heartbeat |
