|
|
I know this question really has nothing to do with the KR1, but I thought some of you who are more network savvy than I ( which is probably everyone) could help me with this, or tell me where to look for more info:
I have a KR1 with EVDO card and it works great. I also have a USR MAXg router/print server, and a network printer. I would like to be able to set the USR Router in a back room somewhere (unwired), connect a printer to it, and be able to print from my PC ( which is actually connected to the KR1 via cat5). I'm not sure I understand how to do this, as the KR1 and MAXg are both wireless access points, and I'm guessing they will compete with each other? I want the KR1 to be the only 'access point', and the MAXg to be just a slave station. Anyway, I can't seem to get the MAXg to talk to the KR1 wirelessly. Is there a mode or configuration I need to know about, is this possible? Any tips or pointers to information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
KJ |

Does that router have a bridge mode?

Yes, I set it (I assume you mean the MAXg) to bridge mode, enabled WDS restrictions, and gave it the MAC for the KR1. Didn't seem to accomplish anything useful, but if that is the key, I'll play around with it some more.
Thanks,

In setting up WDS each router needs the others MAC address.
As a bridge, it should act like a glorified client servicing other machines behind it.
In WDS mode it does the same but also rebroadcasts the wireless for you to use. In WDS the rebroadcasted wireless is 1/2 speed.
I think either mode would work for you.

Thanks, I'll play some more. I can't even get the KR1 and MAXg to talk to each other when they're wired together (can't ping the MAXg), so something seems to be very wrong.
One more question: If I'm using WDS, where/how do I give the KR1 the MAC for the MAXg? I don't recall any KR1 settings to set bridge, WDS, or WDS MAC.
Thanks! |

I will fire up my KR1 later and make sure it supports WDS.
Here is an example for a config
KR1;
Set as acess point
Address - 192.168.1.1
DHCP - on
MaxG;
Set as client
Address - 192.168.1.2
DHCP - Off
On the MaxG in client mode you should just need to select the wireless settings to match your KR1.
If your MaxG has a "client" mode I would turn off WDS. If you don't have "client" mode then we need to see if the KR1 has WDS. They are similar ideas, but different.

The MAXg does have a bridge mode, but nothing called 'client'. It looks as though the bridge mode is configurable to work with or without WDS. But, I can't seem to get these two router to talk to each other at all, regardless of the settings.

Do you have any security on the WiFi connection? If so turn it off for now and test again. I would use the bridge mode with WDS turned off.

Yeah, I've disable all security, on both units, and I'm using bridge without WDS, but no joy.
Thanks,

No, I didn't. <sigh> Played and played until I decided it wasn't worth my time anymore and gave up. I appreciate your help, though, and thanks for checking back.

| The kr1 does not support wds. I also have a ctr500 and I dont believe that does either. But they should work when wired. when they were wired did you turn off dhcp and if both routers use 192.168.0.1 for there ip addresses this would also have to be changed. |

If you want to send me an email @ signal seeker at gmail dot com (minus the spaces) I can try and help you a little more. Through the forum is slow.
I check that email like once a week, I will do it once a day for a few days. I will respond from a real email address though.
I do IT and this is hard to keep up with, instead of done in an evening.
