I am connected to the Internet using a Cradlepoint MBR-1000 router and a Verizon USB720. Lately, in the router's log, I have been noticing dozens of entries that look like this:

Blocked incoming TCP packet from xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx to xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx as RST received but there is no active connection

or

Blocked incoming TCP connection request from xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx to xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx

or

Blocked incoming UDP packet from xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx to xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx

(where the x's are various IP addresses and ports that I don't recognize.)

Do these represent incoming attacks from bots, etc. on my IP address? If so, since they are coming through the modem and getting blocked at the router's firewall, do these represent bandwidth that is chewing through my 5GB monthly limit, even though they are nothing I have any control over? If that is the case, that seems *extremely* unfair. Why should I have to pay for Russian mobsters' attacks on my connection? (Or are these packets so tiny that I am worrying about nothing?)

I have noticed that it costs about 300kb a day to keep my U727/MBR1000 connected to Sprint, with nothing connected.

I should look at the logs. You may have very well explained it.

yes, all traffic that makes it to your router (or software firewall if not using a router), whether you wanted that traffic coming to you or now, is counted as part of your data usage.
