Just curious, for my purposes I think I am going wind up with Verizon for my RV travels.
However, is there a way to tell what you total usage is during a given billing cycle?
Perhaps a Verizon site I am thinking.
It would seem it would have to tied to Verizon somehow to tie in with the billing cycle. |

read this article: http://www.EVDOinfo.com/overage
in it, there is a graphic showing verizon access manager that features a button to see what verizon reports as current usage. |

OK, good information so far.
Is this reset with the billing cycle so I can see my monthly usage at a glance as such?
Disregard, I see you can see the date and figure it for yourself.
Thanks. |

no problem... further researching your answer this morning, i discovered that the "myaccount" online verizon admin presents greater detail, like so:
what still sucks about it, is that its not very "real time". that screenshot was taking this morning, and its most recent detail is two days old. |

| I'm pretty sure they don't mean KB on that page, they mean MB (megabytes.) Which would mean you downloaded over 18 Gigabytes worth of stuff on 06/24. Could that be right? |

| It can't be KB, just one web page would be 10 or 20KB. Are they underreporting that much? |

I'm kind of confused with this. It said this morning "3:01 AM > 5 MB" then it said later on "1:20 AM > 0.5 MB".
That kind of worries me.
Are they still adding crap onto the list from 3 days ago?
Also, why do you have unlimited? Is there a business plan or something? At this point I wouldn't mind paying $300 a month for unlimited... |

I think they do add stuff on later. I'm starting to print out the data usage table periodically to make sure. How do they expect you to govern your usage that way? The Verizon rep I spoke to said the most accurate numbers come from VZ Access Manager, which I don't normally run because I use a router.
I hit 5,400 megabytes last month and they called me about it, the bill would have been about $160. I wasn't aware I had gone that high, but I played sort of dumb about computers and Internet and asked what we could do about my overage. The representative said they would waive the fee the first time. I was of course ok with that, because there's no way in hell I would pay $160 anyway, so I'd have to let the bill go unpaid and lose my service. I asked him if there was any way they could just cut me off after 5,000 megabytes, he said there wasn't any way. He did say however that they won't let the bill get any higher than $250. That's comforting I guess.
So I got my bill yesterday, ~10 days after the call, and the charges were...$160. After they told me the overage charges would be waived. Back on the phone with them I guess, I never have gotten any response to e-mails I send them through their web form.
I told him to pass onto his bosses that it was really tough having a service and not being able to, well, USE it. Just web browsing can easily use 200 or 300 megabytes. They said it was mostly for business travellers checking e-mail and such. Ok fine Verizon, well then give me damn DSL then! They don't offer it where I live.
I know that the T1 lines going to those towers cost a flat rate and you can run them flat out 24/7 for all the upstream provider cares.
(Oh, from earlier in the thread, it looks like they fixed the KB/MB thing!) |

I may just consider a T1 line, though I live in the middle of nowhere so the cost that would probably be the highest would be running it to the house.
At least in Sprint you have a connection manager that tells you how much you've downloaded each time you sign out. ;/ Jeeze.
I've just signed on to my Verizon Wireless account today and it says "$103 due" and I have absolutely no clue why. Maybe these are start-up fees? I don't know.
It definitely shows "300MB used" under 'my usage'... ;/

I don't think you'll get a T1 for any less than $350 or so a month. |

| I know, but the problem is setting it up isn't it? I don't get if T1 is available anywhere or not... |

I think it is. My business is 40 miles from the nearest city, IIRC the T1 install was like 8 or 9 hundred dollars, and we're paying $500 per month.
There are many companies that offer T1 lines. T1s used to be the "backbone" of the Internet. Probably not as much any more. We got ours from a company called T1 Connections, 702-939-6926, http://www.t-1connections.com |
