|
|
My Sprint Smartview has been working fine for
a year now under Vista. I upgraded the application
recently, and it still worked fine. I'm using a
Sony Vaio with a built-in Sprint card.
But I was prompted to upgrade Vista
("Install updates and shut down"),
I did so, and now my SmartView says:
"No wireless device detected"
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance. |

| Have you tried un-installing & re-installing SmartView/drivers. After upgrading to Vista SP1 my audio stopped working, and I just un-installed / re-installed the device drivers & it fixed the problem. |

Smartview didn't come out until april of this year. Maybe I'm wrong but...
Sprint Connection Manager has been around though (SCM).
I had this problem in XP after a windows update. I fixed it by using Smartview (not SCM!) and forcing it to NDIS mode. Then it would recognize my modem. |

| I was doing some changes earlier tonight and somehow my connection got "disabled" and I received the "No wireless device detected" message also. When I went to the Network Connetions, right clicked on it and ENABLED it, all began working again. Hope it helps. |

I don't seem to have an entry in network connections for my Sprint Card. That sounds like a good clue!
Any other ideas? Thanks again for your help!

Well if it does not have a listing in network connections, it would seem to me then that the device (and its drivers) are no longer installed and need to be re-installed.
After installing my card, and the Sierra Connection Manager, and an older version of the Sprint Connection Manager, and the newest Smartview Connection Manager, I had 4 listings related to this card in my Network Connections. I deleted the 3G connection for the Windows independent Driver and now I have 3 listings.
Since it is an embedded card, and you can't see it (or unplug it and re-plug it in easily) I would go into the device manager (Start-Settings-Control Panel-Device Manager) and see if the card is listed there.
In my device manager, I have several listings for my card, its listed under Modems, Network Adapters, and Ports.
I would expect for you to see a listing in one or more of these areas and also to see a warning flag beside it stating there is a problem. Chasing down the listed problem should get you headed in the right direction. If not, then you need to Go under Actions (in the Bar at the top) and Scan for Hardware Changes. If that does not show any results, hmmm.
How long has it been since you went to the SONY Vaio site and upgraded your BIOS, and all the driver software updates for your computer? You might try that also.
OK, thats all I can think of at the moment, hopefully something here will get you going down the right path. Please report back and let us know. |

| Are you using VMWare? I had a conflict with VMWare and had to turn off VMWare's virtual network drivers at the host. Then it worked. |

Update: I called Sprint tech support. They said they would not help me,
and that I needed to call Sony. So I called Sony and spent two and a half
hours with level 1 and level 2 tech support. They could not make it work,
and finally said I needed to reformat my disk and reeinstall windows.
Any other ideas? Thanks again for your help!

|

If you reinstalled the Smartview software and you still do not see any card related connections in the Start-Settings-Network Connections window then I am stumped.
These cards are also plug and play and if you just plug them in without one of the Sprint Connection manager software packages, Windows should "find" the new hardware and install it's own 3G driver and place a connection listing in the Network Connections folder and it still should work.
I hate to say it, but I guess I am stumped on this one.
My very last thought is you might try Windows System Restore and go back to the Restore point right before the Vista update caused all these problems. I would back everything up before you try this. |
