So I'm curios to see who else is thinking of leaving Verizon due to the data limitations? I know I'm over 5 gig a month, so that's not going to be something I can live with.

Also, does anyone know or have they heard of Verizon letting you out of your contract because of the new rates?

We believe that contracts that started prior to the overage charges will simply continue to be throttled (if they even were throttling).

Time will tell (15-30days?) if verizon is/was stupid enough to impose overage charges, even on contracts that existed prior to March 2nd.

If they did do that, there should be a way to leave verizon without ETF.

no promises though. as i said, time will tell.

There's only one reason to sign up for a service like Verizon's, and that is because you can't get Sprint, or any other decent service.

Otherwise, predatory tactics such as "fair usage" clauses are simply cheats, and they're cheats because they fly in the face of common terms.

I'd sign up in a second if I'd no other choice, and drop them like a bad habit at the earliest opportunity.

I'd definitely switch if they try to impose the ridiculous $0.49 per MB. . Alltel now has service in my area.

I've been going over 5GB lately (5.5GB) - If Verizon kills me or Throttles me - I will run (not walk) to 3GStore and order Sprint (I get Sprint here).

I think Alex ir right. TIME will tell, meaning we need to see some billing statements come out to really see what's going to happen.

I did switch to Sprint just before all of this due to a whole separate issue with Verizon, but had I not I would if they did this to me.

Out of curiously and to straighten what has been said time and time again I called Verizon this morning (By the way my account is active until the end of this month then off) and asked them about my account if I was to keep it. Like we all know left and right hands speak a completely different language lol! This guy told that NO I would not be charged for the overage as I started my service back when it was "unlimited" and that's the way my account is set up (had it for 5 years). I said oh unlimited like as in no cap!? You mean I'm not even subject to the 5GB cap??? He said oh that does apply yes. I then asked his name and numbers and if he had ever heard of the law suit back east and are you sure I have an "unlimited account lol? You could hear the water over the phone as he back peddled as fast as he could LOL!

So bottom line yes I would switch if I hadn't already and like Alex says we'll not know for sure until we start seeing some bills from those with accounts previous to the new plans so be sure, because it all depends on who you talk to as what the correct answer is for now.

Verizon is the only available option for high speed where I am located but if Sprint or Alltel had service I would seriously consider switching especially if they charged me overage. And even if they didn't the 5gb limit would already have me considering the switch.

I have been very satisfied with the Verizon service so far and even though I have gone over the 5gb limit every month by 1/2 to 1 gb I never had a slow down in service.

If they do impose the overage to longer term customers I guess I would just have to watch my usage but the first chance I get Verizon would be history. Unless of course the others do the same.

I will switch over to another service in a heartbeat if I could. 5GB limit makes me want to switch. The overage makes me want to get rid of the service all together, even without another company to switch to.

Must chime in here.

Verizon is challenging my belief that WildBlue is the lamest ISP on the planet. What was Verizon thinking?

Given the new Verizon FAP policy, WildBlue could actually be a legitimate choice for those unfortunate people living broadband challenged areas with no other options...

and that is sick!

BTW, I am a VERY happy Sprint user.

Verizon has Rev A where I live, but I went with Sprint (no EVDO in my area) because of the rumors that they where booting folks for going over 5 gb under the "unlimited" plan.

I am a very happy Sprint customer. The roaming agreement they have with AllTel has worked very well for me, giving me EVDO locally, and allowing me to travel halfway across the continent, and never lose EVDO more than for just a bit in one short stretch, and never loosing coverage. Hand in hand, he Sprint/Alltel coverage is extensive.

So, yes, I dumped them simply on a rumor that I would get dumped over the 5gb limit.

And yes, they lost a lot of customers that I would have referred to them as well.

I used well over 5GB on Verizon and never had a slow down ...
As of march 1st I have great Sprint coverage. Currently I run both services, but as soon as my contract ends or Verizon does something that I can end it without ETF ... I'm gone.

My problem is – over the course of a year, I most likely average closer to 2.5 GB/mo. However, two or three months out of each year, I use closer to 7.5 GB and thus would exceed the monthly limit. I’m probably very close to the average user if you tally it up by year and not by month. So, yes, I am looking into other options.

Not likely. I have 2 options for mobile Verizon Wireless and Sprint. Verizon Wireless gets great coverage for data in foothill area at 1xrtt. Sprint does not. Not much of a choice. Idea

Sprint can roam on Verizon 1XRTT at no charge so it wouldn't be an issue, though you wouldn't want Sprint if you live in an area that would always roam.

I signed up for Verizon EVDO in late summer of 2006, back when it was still being advertised as "Unlimited". All my paperwork says "Unlimited" and my bill still says "Unlimited".

I usually use 3.5GB/month pretty consistently. If I were to ever go over 5GB (which I have a couple times in the last year and a half), and be smacked with those overage fees, I would be telling Verizon that I was canceling my account, and informing them that I would not be paying any termination fees, since this change is in direct conflict with the plan that I purchased.

I don't think I'll have to worry about that happening though, since they have not changed the wording on my account the entire time I've had it.

You can bet I'm keeping an eye on it though.
