BUMP. I think the question is: what would be required to use either EVDO or 3G on the same router? It seems to me that one version of QpenWRT router firmware could support both. I have EVDO working on mine, but I wasn't able to get 3G to work earlier this year.

I purchased the Linksys Wireless-G Router For Mobile Broadband For Use With Verizon (RT54G3G-VN). I also have a Verizon PC5750 card.
I can't return any of the devices. Can someone please guide me to any information or previous post on how to get this working.
The linkksys router does not even work properly (boot up or let me connect to it) when I have the PC5750 card plugged in.
Also, because I thought that it was just my faulty linksys router I suggested the same solution to someone else and their router, although I can log in to it, still does not recognize the PC5750 card.
I have seen some information on updating the firmware of the linksys router. Can someone let me know what is the best thing to do.
If I had seen some of the reviews and some of your post I would not have purchased this in the first place. |

I browsed through the thread but I don't see any info on how this firmware might work with the WRT54GV2. I just received mine from the 3G store and would like to have some third-party firmware to be more confident connecting to Alltel with it.
As of right now, I have the Huawei EC228 USB modem which is not at all recognized by the router. I'm going to be purchasing a PC5750 for exclusive use in the router, however, so I think I'll be able to get it up and running. |

Because MBR1000: $239.99, Linsksys: $149.99
For a difference of $90.
I think it's worth a couple minutes of my time to get it to work.
Take $15 out of that $90 to get a PC5750, and I'm pretty confident it'll work: evdoforums.com/thread5342.html
Also, I'll have a dedicated card to keep in my laptop bag (the EC228), so I don't have to leave my house without internet if I want to travel with it. |

| I need a router that will create a nice wireless network for my home though. I have a standard Linksys WRT54G handling the network right now, with my laptop serving up the cellular connection through ICS. As it is, the range of the WiFi network just barely cuts it. All the locations in my house work fine, but when I move out to the (disconnected) garage (something I do often as I have it set up as an indoor/outdoor theater) the signal is just barely good enough to keep me happy. I have a hard time believing that the CTR350 could match the WRT54G in coverage. |

the CTR350 has matched linksys coverage for some users, but not for all. as always, it depends on wall construction and competing electronics interference.
everything's a compromise. you may struggle getting the linksys to work with alltel (not seen any reports of 3gv2 with alltel yet), or you may struggle with range of CTR350.
thats life i guess. just wanted to make sure you knew the cradlepoint's are known to work with ec228, without a hack of any kind. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

Well I certainly appreciate the heads-up. Being that I'm quite familiar with Linksys products from the past, I think I'd rather just take my chances at getting a PC5750 to work.
But back to my original question -- being that I plan on using the PC-Card slot of the V2 router, might this firmware work with it, or would that be a big no-no?
Any info on what firmware I should use otherwise? |

i/we do not play with dd-wrt firmware for linksys routers.
its hard enough to support the default crap linksys provides!
hopefully, one of the forum goers who frequent this thread will get their hands on a 3GV2 to take advantage of the 3 USB ports. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

|

I apologize if this has already been covered in the 41 forums pages, but I have a WRT543g-AT and am attempting to load this firmware in order to use both my AT&T data card and my Verizon data card in this router.
I downloaded aDqpHQwDOr3lfrabIlDkbG
and since that has no extension and there are no installation instructions, I added .bin, assuming that was necessary. Anyway, the upgrade fails every time. Could someone please tell me:
1. Is adding .bin correct?
2. Is this firmware ok for the WRT54G3G-AT?
3. Is the firmware linked in the first post the most recent version with all patches applied?
Thanks! |

abbynormal-
To my knowledge the first page links are to the original firmware. From what I can see, after that, evdowizard let others compile it for themselves from his source. I don't have that knowledge of how to compile from source, but found a post somewhere in the 30-39th pages (from someone named wolf something?) where someone compiled the r82 (most recent) and has it on a site where you can download it after Registering.

From my recent experience with it, the file is in TRX format, which I believe you can load only if you already have OpenWRT running on your router. It isn't super-easy to do, but there is a good amount of documentation on getting a regular OpenWRT install going on the OpenWRT wiki (http://wiki.openwrt.org). I think you'll want to download the .bin file for WhiteRussian 0.9, upgrade the firmware to that, then you can load the TRX file from the download above. |

Thanks for the reply. Rather than going through what seemed to be an excruciatingly difficult process to get a Verizon data card to work in my router made for an AT&T card, I simply followed the instructions to use a Hex editor to change the header of the firmware to trick the router into thinking the vz firmware was at firmware. |

| ah, ok, makes sense. I didn't have to worry about all that...I'm not even using the Linksys router, I uploaded this firmware to an ASUS WL-500g Premium router and use a Sprint U720 (USB) modem...didn't have to make any changes to anything, it worked perfectly the 1st time I tried it. |
