|

Hi All,
Great to here that Alltel is rolling out Rev A and I have read the posts regarding the new Rev A card offerings but what about phones? I have the KPC650 but dropped it to tether with my Razor since it dropped me from $60 per month to $25. I didn't really notice that much of speed difference and couldn't game or VOIP over the Rev 0 anyway.
Are there any new Rev A capable phones available or coming? Better yet, any upgrade path for existing phones to Rev A?
Thanks,

| There are no current phones that are Rev A capable. The PPC6800 is supposed to be the first one on the market with that ability. It's supposed to be released by Alltel in the next few weeks but will probably not be Rev A capable until later via a firmware upgrade. |

Decided to knock the dust off this old post and try again now. Anyone know what Rev A phones are currently available or coming?
Thanks, |

HTC PPC6800 and HTC Touch are the only two I know of. And oddly, HTC seems to have removed the rev. A ROM updates for these Alltel phones from their site. No idea why, but you can still find download links if you look on Google. Below is the ROM update for the HTC Touch.
http://216.139.227.226/alltel/RUU_Vogue_4350_ALLTEL_WWE_3.04.671.2_Radio_4350H_3.37.10_Alltel_NV2.00_PRL30008_0331_Ship_withSpecialNBH.exe
Motorola recently released the Adventure V750, which is rev. A capable. Currently only for Verizon, though. I sent Motorola support an email asking if this phone or any other rev. A capable handsets would be available for Alltel anytime soon, and I basically got a canned response saying they don't have any info on future rev. A capable handsets for Alltel.
I recently picked up an HTC Touch and am hoping to get it up and running over the weekend. I'm not sure if we have rev. A yet, but if we don't it should be coming soon. I'm a few miles outside of Manhattan, KS. Will let you know how it performs if we do have rev. A here. |

Thanks frostedflakes. The HTC Touch was one of the phones I was interested in anyway. Glad to hear that it is Rev A and I look forward to hearing back about your experiences with it.
Thanks again,

No rev. A yet.
But rev. 0 performance seems to be on-par (or better) than the old RAZR. I'm using USBModem to simulate a USB dialup modem and connect. These Windows Mobile phones don't do this by default, but rather use some convoluted way of connecting where the internet connection is actually created on the phone, and then ActiveSync sets up some kind of connection sharing between the phone and computer -- as opposed to the computer simply seeing the phone as a modem and connecting through it. Anyways, the USBModem software can get around this, but it costs $20 to purchase. Just something to keep in mind if you're thinking about switching. I'm still kind of new to this stuff as well, but if you have any questions about the phone and how it connects feel free to PM me and I'll try to help out.
Speedtest. I've actually seen 2.1Mbps before w/the RAZR, so I don't know if I should chalk it up to the Touch having superior RF performance, or if it's just a fluke (the tower may not be very congested right now). I did a speed test last night w/the Touch and got about 1.5Mbps down, which is how the RAZR had been performing. |
