FWIW, if you hit your 5GB limit early in the month and can't watch any more YouTube or other mind numbing drivel why not pick up a book and read. There's no limit to how fast you have to read the book nor the number of pages in a single setting. |

I welcome speed increases. I wonder if the limits you state above are real or perceived? I and my wife use RevA (one account) as our primary internet in our home. This includes heavy online gaming 3+ hours every day, voice chats (Ventrillo) 15-20 hours a week, surfing to loads of very detailed 'current' websites, frequent viewing of YouTube videos, frequent listening to radio 'streams' by my wife (1-2 hours a day), etc. We don't hold back what we want to do at all; we just use it. My monthly total hovers around 2GB, once it hit 3GB. Well, well under the 5GB limit.
I don't doubt that people do hit the limit doing normal, legitimate things, but in my own experience the cap is not the doom and gloom that some report. |
Some of us are going to hit the limit? Gosh, anyone that is functioning in business and using this as their primary connection is going to go ::: splat ::: against the wall!
Which would you rather own? An Escalade and only be able to drive it 30 miles a week or Toyota and be able to drive it as much as you wanted? That's how this feels.
I'd be thrilled if they brought back the $80 a month days with unlimited 1xRTT compared to $60 for 5 gigs of any flavor of EVDO.
For Sprint to be thinking of increasing speeds so that we can all hit the wall sooner is just retarded. They will deceptively advertise these lightening fast speeds to get people to sign 2 year agreements but the user won't know how little they'll be able to really use their service.
Doom and gloom? It's not quite there, yet... because nobody at Sprint really knows what's going on. I personally have called in three times and courteously asked what's going on with my account and I've been told three different things: 1) they will call me to help me "work toward the goal" of reducing my usage to 5 gig 2) that I don't have to worry because they aren't messing with business accounts ...and to the latest: 3) that I've been over for the last two months and I might get "fined" for my usage.
(oh, and I haven't been notified of any changes on my account and I'm supposed to be unlimited!)
What a clusterfoulup.
And I've been a cellular internet user since 2003. With the exception of a few months, it's been my primary internet connection all this time. I've been through all the incarnations that have come down the pipe with Verizon and now Sprint.
As for your numbers, I can do a couple of hours of heavy emailing and web viewing related to my business and I can burn up 60 mb (did that this morning) and I just flipped on a streaming radio station for a few minutes to watch my data meter go nuts. Seems that it takes more than a minute but far less than 2 minutes to burn 1 mb. Guesstimate about 90 seconds to kill a mb. That means your wife kills maybe 60+ mb pretty quickly... there is your 2 gig a month all by itself.
I had no clue what I was using until I installed a meter after catching wind of this craziness by Sprint. And I can tell by your post that I agree with Wayne... you're either not on as much as you think you are or you're not tracking the usage correctly.
Oh... and don't count on Sprint's numbers to be accurate. Some are being under reported (good for them) ... and for me, so far this month, I've used 7 gig according to my meter and Sprint thinks I've used 10. (if you can get a rep that even knows how to do the math from bytes to gigs!) And I still have 13 days to go on my billing cycle. Even if I was so silly to start my meter at midnight at the begining of the billing cycle and Sprint started a day sooner, I sure didn't burn 3 gigs in a day.
And I am the only one that uses my account.. and I AM trying to "hold back" and I'm still killing that much. I don't dare listen to streaming radio at this rate.
5 gigs is not enough for many people (using this as a primary connection) to function easily.
I'd rather go back to pre-EVDO days. Listening to this garbage about wanting more speed is just a joke at this point, IMO. |

In order to insure I don't hit the limit, I can't download or view video, I can't download all the podcasts I used to listen to. I have to get these from a wi-fi connection. The only thing I can now do is view static 1995 style web pages and the occasional chatroom, (with no voice turned on.) What difference does it make to me if yahoo.com or ebay.com loads in half a second or 2 seconds? None. It doesn't change my life whatsoever.
Instead of upgrading the speed, why not upgrade it so it can have the capacity to let us do what we want with the internet like we could 3 months ago? |

I have to call shens on this. What bitrate are the radio streams you listen to? Most of mine are 96Kbps (12KBps), so tuning in for 60 hours a month (two hours per day) would suck up 2.6GB. That's half of your 5GB right there. |

I think pretty much everybody has called BS on that. |
