Ok... so yesterday, I did a PRL update (activation) for my USB720. The PRL version jumped significantly, so much so that I'm wondering if something went awry.

I had PRL version 51056 (or something close to that). I now have version 59999.

I'm in the DC area, in case the metro area matters.

Anyone else see this PRL version after updating their device?

Hmmmmmm... wonder what this one adds... I may have to check this out and see if the Alltel EVDO network where I am right now is finally available to me, rather than Verizon's 1xRTT... (I travel out of my home area one day a week to an area that Alltel has EVDO in and Verizon doesn't)...

Well, you confused me! Laughing

You asked about your PRL Version - I showed you that I am running that PRL Version (and live outside Washington, D.C.) and then you start talking about Verizon's 1xRTT... Shocked

Current Verizon PRL is 59999. Current PRL is the same everywhere in the USA.

For those with a Verizon aircard or a USB cellular modem..... Have you updated your PRL version in the last month or so?

Not to do so is a mistake. Basically, your aircard has a list of Preferred Roaming List (or PRL) embedded in the card. This list tells your card which towers to look for when establishing connection. As new EVDO towers are installed, your PRL will be out of date and you may be in an EVDO area, but your card doesn't have the tower in the list, so the tower is invisible. So, it is a good idea to update your PRL monthly.
For those with any Verzion provided aircard you can update your aircard by using Verzion's VZAccess Manager software. Start VZAccess Manager but do not connect.. now, go to "Options". Now, select "Activation" and re-activate your aircard. Only takes about 30 seconds or so. Does all without any input from you. By the way some aircards supposedly do PRL updates automatically... key word supposedly. Only takes a minutes to do a reactivation to be 100% sure your PRL is current. Remember, those using their aircard or USB cellular modem inserted in a router, this means every month or so remove the aircard from the router and plug it into your laptop and do as I mentioned above and then reinstall the aircard in the router.

My Verizon cell phone updated today shows PRL - 51056. As I mentioned in an earlier post my Verizon aircard recently updated shows PRL - 59999. I'm in NY for those curious.

I'm sorry. Smile My main objective was to make sure that I wasn't the only one seeing PRL 59999...

Knowing that Verizon has acquired Alltel and could be trying to bring the networks together, I was hoping that this PRL update would have brought me EVDO service in an Alltel EVDO area, that Verizon only had 1x in... but it doesn't appear to be the case yet. Oh well, still 1x in Charlottesville for me. Sad

I'm in S Central Arkansas. I updated my USB720 modem after reading this thread. Before the update, the PRL was 51018; after the update, it's 59999. I get about 1200 down, 600 up on speedtest.net, about the same as before.

I paid the pricey ETF to get off hughes.net after having them for 4+ years. So far, I'm happy, except for the 5 GB limit. This past week, I discovered that a web site I had left open in an IE tab used >1 GB in 1 day (!), due to its using a banner news crawler and background music (I wasn't aware of the music, since I had my sound turned down). So, I ended up with 3 GB after only 10 days of my 31 day billing cycle! Needless to say, I have to be very careful for the next 3 weeks! Bummer!!! Thank goodness for BitMeter!

Hi all,

I activated my modem again to check PRL versions about 4pm PDT today here in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, and low and behold, version 59999 was installed.

Understand - thanks for the clarification.
