I have a sprint compass 597 usb modem. Can I plug it in my laptop then run a eithernet cable from the back of my laptop to my PS3 and play online games with the PS3? If so is it a real complicated process. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to setting this stuff up. I did purhase a set up from the 3gstore witha cradlepoint router but the router went down and I was looking for a temporary fix till I get the new router. Thanks

You can. But you need to configure ICS to do it. Link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126

if you haven't already done the ICS thing, then I'll just tell you in very simple terms how i did it.
I originally did it with a windows 2000 laptop but then later I did it in about 20 seconds with a xp machine because I knew exactly what I was doing...

So you want to go to the part that displays "network connections" (usually in control panel)
Find the dial up connection called sprint mobile broadband,( It is a dial up connection cause of the modem.. it is just super fast compared to normal "dial up")
Right click and go to properties

On Win2K it is a little different with XP, but click around on the tabs and stuff and you will find "internet connection sharing" Just make sure to allow sharing and everything will work.

here's the only problem I believe you could find...
I have always used a crossover ethernet cable in playing xbox live(it is like PS3)
However, I have read that a normal patch cable will work fine nowadays.
I have no idea if that is true...
but just changing the cable is the easy part...

-Hope this helps a little..

A program called Free Proxy works much more stable than ICS and it is free

Do I need to do anything with the ps3? Is it as simple as just plugging it in and go? I'm running xp with service pack 2. What is this Free Proxy you are talking about onedavester? Again excuse my ignorance, I'm not a tech savvy but love playing online games from the middle of nowwhere. Gohawk08 you by chance would be a seahawks fan would you? Thanks for the info guys! Very Happy
