Bought a Sprint Seirra Compass 597, installed device and software on my wife's Compact laptop but could not gain internet access via IE on an XP system. Called tech support, they had me uninstall and reinstall software (takes an hour) but the same problem..the software can ping sprint via the device but IE does not see it...and Sprint tells me to send the computer to the manufacturer..like that is going to happen...a clue..when I tried to look at the wireless network list, windows told me it did not have the authority to display this information...like some other software controls it now?? Another clue..I got a brief error popup during the install but the message disappeared instantly
I have 30 days to return it if i cannot get it to work. all ideas are welcome
Please.........

Try uninstalling Smart View and then go to http://www.nextel.com/en/software_downloads/mobile_broadband/sierra_compass_597.shtml and download the most recent version. If that does not work go to http://evdotips.blogspot.com/2008/03/do-i-have-to-use-connection-manager.html and try that method.

Thanks for the reply, your first suggestion I have done twice, once with sprint on the line for an hour and a half. the second one i will have to research from a differant pc since i can't get IE to work with the device on my wifes laptop.

Smartview is controlling your wireless networks now. You ca click over to them on the smartview window or if you close the window xp will have control of the wirless network's again. In your internet option's on IE do you have it set to never dial a connection and under lan setting have it detect setting automatically? That is how I have mine set and have never had a problem.
