|

Hey all,
Its been a while since I've been here. A long while back I was greatly interested in the EVDO Linksys Router but recall reading A LOT of complaints about it bottlenecking the evdo bandwidth. So I've put off buying any hardware.
I see now the KR2 has been released and read only one post so far (that I could find) regarding a potential bottleneck. I was just wondering about the rest of the community?
If you had your card directly installed to your PC and ran a bandwidth test vs having it installed in the router - what were your results?
I realize having security setup on your router will slow things down but I'm talking zero security restrictions - as much apples to apples as you can get pc vs router.
Lastly - I thought I read in the KR2 release post that there still is no way to tell (evdo / provider) signal strength from within the router? Is that true to date or has it been resolved?
Thanks! |

I'll leave other users to answer your first few questions but I'll address this one: KR2 does display signal strength for almost every EVDO device it is compatible with. There are a couple of ways to determine this. One is to utilize the SGNL button; it can be used for a display of approximate signal strength without logging into the administration screen (consult the documentation for more details on it). The other way is to access the Modem Info screen under the Status tab. It contains information about your EVDO device including approximate signal strength, displayed as a percentage.
There are a few devices that the router cannot read signal strength from; this is not a KR2 firmware bug, but rather differences in how the EVDO device software is written. Not all devices output the same information the same way. |

The CTR350 & PHS300 now provide RSSI information within the Modem Info page, and this feature is expected to be present in future versions of firmware for the MBR1000 & CTR500.
No word if the KR2 will provide RSSI anytime in the near future. I would highly suggest you consider an MBR1000 over the KR2, unless you are specifically using a PCMCIA card.
What Is RSSI? |

Yes, unfortunately I was one of the first to sign up with Sprint and have a Sierra 595 PCMCIA device.
Thanks for the info! |
